If you have ever played an old Hohner Erika and wondered what it could be like if it had survived and evolved- here it is
I have always been impressed by the 1930s Hohner Erika/Club 2 it has a super quick lightweight and low profile keyboard, the acoustics from the box are superb and they are a joy to play. i have never understood why Hohner stopped making them. I always wondered what they could have become with modern aluminium soundboards and top quality italian reeds in the treble end. so i made one!
I have retained the original Erika keyboard mech due to the fact that no-one makes a similar mechanism today, with recessed buttons and a very short throw it is an excellent keyboard. Modern aluminium mechs, generally have top mount buttons, are deeper and have a totally different feel,. I like the longer modern keyboards but they are different. Other than that i have redesigned everything else from the case to the reedblocks and soundboards based on years of experience and scores of restorations and rebuilds. This has been designed to be a loud, fast and uncompromising box
These are made of the finest seasoned hardwoods either from reclaimed or local Cornish sources and are built to order . You can specify any layout or finish you want I recommend Binci reeds for these but I can fit Voci Armoniche or Harmonikas if required, if you are thinking of ordering an EKA speak to me first to see what can be achieved. The whole point of these is that they are bespoke, custom built to your acoustic and aesthetic preferences.
